It started with a short conversation between my dad and me about doing a triathlon together. One day he texted me and casually mentioned that he had actually signed up. Just like that, the clock started ticking. I had four months to prepare for my first sprint triathlon.
I grew up as a strong, competitive swimmer, and as a Marine Corps veteran I’ve always been someone who looks for the next challenge. As an adult, I was searching for something that would push me again - physically and mentally. In 2025 I completed my first sprint triathlon, and not long after that I joined Team Zoot and started racing with their team.
From the moment that race ended, I was hooked.
After the race, my dad and I were talking about how great it felt - to push yourself, to feel that post-race high, and to sit down after with a beer and share the story of the day. Looking around at the race, I saw people from all walks of life. Some were elite athletes, but many were just everyday people showing up, doing the work, and giving it their best shot.
And it hit me: you don’t have to be a top-tier athlete to compete. Sometimes you can have a dad bod.
That’s when Dad Bod Triathlon Club was born.
At first it was just a fun idea. A few jokes, some relatable posts, a little content about training and life. But with time it's starting to turn into something more. It became about bettering myself for my family and for my daughter, because most of life is caught, not taught.
She started watching me more.
She started wanting to “run like daddy.”
And that’s when I realized this wasn’t just about racing anymore.
Dad Bod Triathlon Club is about improving yourself in whatever way you can. Sometimes that’s a 5 AM workout, sometimes it’s a 9 PM one after the house is quiet. You do what you can with the time you have. You enjoy the ride, you stay healthy for your family, and of course - you enjoy a nice cold one along the way.
Now we’re working to grow DBTC into something even bigger. More of an actual community. An open space where people can come together for swims, runs, and bike rides. Working out together, pushing each other, and sharing stories over a cold one afterward.
In 2026, I’m racing with Team Zoot and starting to lock in local sponsors to help grow awareness and build the culture behind this idea.
Because this club is really for the dads who feel buried under the pressure of perfection that social media pushes every day. That’s not us.
We’re not about perfection.
We’re about real life.
Family first.
Finding the time.
Putting in the work.
Not every race is perfect - and neither are we as dads. But what we do when everyone else is asleep is what helps us become better men, better fathers, and better examples.
Dad Bod Triathlon Club is here with the dads and for the dads.
Thanks for being part of the ride. Or the run. Or the bike.
Here’s to you. Cheers.
